Getting to Know Kathryn
Kathryn Alexander, MA was born in Michigan to a mother with Multiple Sclerosis. Her birth was hoped to be a cure. As a caregiver at an early age, she understood the ravages of disease first hand. She was a passionate student of religion and bible and became frustrated when she discovered that the ministers, pastors, and chaplains of the various churches she attended were afraid of her questions because they didn't know the answers.
Kathryn Alexander, MA has spent her whole life exploring 'how should we live." Her early and precocious exploration of religion (she taught Sunday school at 10), her courageous approach to liver cancer (healed without chemo or radiation), and her innovative approach to leadership development (she developed the Birds of a Feather model) have all been a search for how to live well and in sync with nature.
An animal lover, she spent her teenage years riding horses and barrel racing and adopting all the strays her parents would allow. Animals are great teachers and helped her learn to listen and work with her heart instead of her ego.
Her curiosity about "how we should live" made her exploration of yoga and the meditation system taught by Swami Muktananda a natural step. Living in the ashram with her two children, traveling to India and various ashrams in the United States gave her insight into the benefits of these practices for groups of people.
Her interest in groups lead her to the study of organizational behavior with a keen interest in organizational change. The tools and techniques she has studied over the years allow her to work with all sizes of groups in any walk of life, in a way that honors all attendees. This work has had some amazing success stories as people have grappled with various issues. Trusting the process makes for break through possibilities. No two sessions are the same. This work has lead to her Learning Parties™
Her discovery in March 2005 that she had stage 3b liver cancer set the stage for her to combine all her study. Her cancer journey was a joyous experience and her decision to NOT use chemo or radiation ensured that she was strong and healthy enough to undergo five more major surgeries (one each six months) and in particular the puncturing of her colon by a doctor performing out patient surgery. Since he didn't tell her she might have a punctured colon, she was increasingly ill for over seven days before being able to see the doctor again. The week of intensive care is hardly remembered and the next week of intense antibiotics was much harder on her than the cancer.
She knows that healing is possible! She understands the mind/body/spirit connection! She want's to share what she knows!
